Why we list it
Fivelements has been cited among the world’s best Ayurveda retreats repeatedly since opening on the Ayung River north of Ubud. Unlike the majority of “Ayurveda” offerings in Bali — which are spa-adjacent wellness experiences at best — Fivelements works with qualified practitioners trained in classical Ayurvedic diagnosis and treatment protocols.
The property is a reason to visit independent of any programme. Open-air pavilions of bamboo and recycled teak rise from the riverbank. The sound of the Ayung — one of Bali’s most sacred rivers — is constant. The setting doesn’t perform wellness. It simply is it.
The healing approach
Fivelements practises Sakti Healing: an integration of Ayurvedic medicine with Balinese healing traditions (Usada Bali). Each guest receives an individual health consultation on arrival and a programme designed specifically for them. Daily Ayurvedic body treatments are included — not extras. The yoga practice is contemplative, slow, and breath-centred rather than fitness-driven.
The Balinese dimension
Most international Ayurveda retreats strip out the local spiritual context. Fivelements does the opposite — the Balinese ritual dimension is treated as inseparable from the healing framework. Guests participate in a Tirta ceremony (water blessing) at the riverside temple, and the kitchen practises traditional Balinese plant medicine in its menu design.
For women who’ve done Ayurveda in Kerala and want to understand how it manifests in a different cultural container, this is genuinely instructive. The traditions are related but distinct.
Who it suits
Women who want genuine Ayurvedic treatment in Bali — not spa-Ayurveda. Women with significant budgets who won’t compromise on accommodation quality. Women who’ve been to Kerala retreats and want a different context for the same depth of work.
Our take
Fivelements consistently earns its reputation. At this price point, it delivers in ways most luxury retreats don’t: traditional medicine applied seriously, not performed for optics. If the budget is available, this is among the best Ayurveda experiences outside of India.
Pricing note
At $2,800–4,500/person for a full week with all treatments included, the value proposition is real. The daily Ayurvedic treatments alone would cost $150–200 per session if booked à la carte elsewhere in Ubud.
