Why we list it

Santa Teresa is the best beach in Costa Rica for yoga. That’s a specific claim, and we’ll defend it: the combination of consistent surf, a long sandy point break, relatively uncrowded conditions (compared to Nosara or Jacó), and a low-key Tico-meets-nomad culture makes it a yoga environment that’s hard to replicate. Pranamar has occupied the best oceanfront position in Santa Teresa for over a decade.

The yoga isn’t the headline here — the location is. But we list it because the yoga is genuinely good, which means the combination delivers.

The morning practice

Classes take place in an open-air shala on the second floor with a full 180-degree view of the Pacific. Morning vinyasa begins at 7am, before the heat builds. The teaching is dynamic but measured — not a fitness class, not a spiritual performance. The kind of class where you feel you’ve genuinely practiced afterward.

Three evenings per week there’s a restorative session: a deliberate wind-down that uses the ocean sound as the sound bath. These sessions are small (8–10 people) and quiet. Women consistently mention them as the emotional core of the week.

Santa Teresa culture

Santa Teresa is relaxed in a way that most Bali equivalents no longer are. The town is genuinely small. There are two main roads, a few excellent restaurants, a surf school on every corner, and very little of the Instagram-retreat infrastructure that can make yoga holidays feel like content creation. The rhythm here is: practice, eat, swim, walk, sleep. This is not complicated and that’s why it works.

Who it suits

Women who want yoga in a beautiful location without intense structure. Women who want to surf or swim alongside their practice. Women for whom the ocean is part of the medicine — not the backdrop.

Our take

Pranamar is not the deepest retreat on our Costa Rica list. It doesn’t need to be. It delivers a genuinely excellent yoga week in one of the most beautiful beach environments in the Americas, at a fair price. Sometimes that’s exactly enough.

Pricing note

$900–1,350 for six nights including accommodation and daily morning yoga. The lighter programme structure means lunch and dinner costs are on you — Santa Teresa has good food at reasonable prices. Budget $30–50/day for meals.
